Moments ago, the National Weather Service declared a tornado warning for Claiborne and Warren counties until noon today.

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

“Everyone needs to stay weather aware today,” according to the NWS in Jackson.

Vicksburg is under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. today. The watch is in effect for all of central Mississippi, although the times may vary as the front moves northwest across the state.

The NWS says the risk is “enhanced” for severe weather meaning the area will likely see “storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, tornadoes, and large hail … as the storm system moves through the ArkLaMiss region. The greatest threat for severe weather will be during the afternoon going into the early evening.”
