Vicksburg Junior High School seventh grade girl’s basketball team recently went undefeated this year with a 5-0 record.

The Missy Gators were led by head coach Tori McPhearson and assistant coach Jennifer Stewart who both trained the ladies hard to prepare for game day.

The Gator offense was led by players Mashayla Banks and Jamiya Stewart, who put up most of the points for VJHS which led to a successful season.

“It was a great team effort all year and they played organized basketball,” McPhearson said. “They stayed hungry for a win and did not want to lose.”

Throughout the five-game season, the Missy Gators blew out just about all of their opponents by double digits to keep their winning streak alive.

With the great help of Teagan Stewart and Jada Erwin, the Gators’ defense stopped many individuals from scoring, which came in clutches during every game.

The young Gator team not only pleased the fans but they also made their coaches proud on how they never gave up and continued to fulfill their mission.

“I’m so proud of them and excited to see what they are going to do next year,” McPhearson said.

The seventh grade team will now be moving up to eighth grade squad next season and Vicksburg Daily News will keep everyone updated on their future success.
