Warren Central soccer player Anna Hoben has signed a letter of intent to play the position of goalkeeper for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, Miss.

Vicksburg native Hoben has played soccer since the age of 4, all the way through her senior year of high school.

Hoben is the only person in her family to ever play soccer. She played on a tournament team until she reached the seventh grade at Warren Central Junior High, where she played goalkeeper.

“I work best with defense, and I leave personal things off the field,” she said.

Hoben credits a lot of her success to her parents and coaches who helped her throughout the years.

“Coach [Greg] Head helps when I am struggling in a class, and former coach Amber Davis helped me decide on Mississippi Gulf Coast, while Coach Lawrence York always told me how I can be better,” she said.

Hoben also has played volleyball since the ninth grade, and she finished her last season less than a month ago. In college, she plans on majoring in biomedical engineering and will pursue a doctorate in prosthetics.

“I want to stay in the athletic field, but I also want to give back to the military because they gave up so much for us, is why I chose a career path with prosthetics,” she said.

Hoben is the daughter of Todd and Shannon Hoben.
