WC defeated Callaway in the final seconds; Lady Vikes took a tough loss

Warren Central High School boy’s basketball team picked up a 63-61 win over Callaway after a layup by Padre Gray Jr. with seven seconds left in the game.

The Viking got a 14-5 head start in the first quarter after a 3-pointer by Gray and multiple free throws and shots by Lazaveon Sylvester. Although Gaylon Turner Jr. and Garrett Orgas-Fisher pitched in heavily in the second quarter, the Chargers eventually took a 33-32 lead over WC.

Coming out of halftime, Jaylon Winters knocked down a 3-pointer while Turner and Roosevelt Harris Jr. got some easy buckets to regain the lead.

Late in the the game both teams were tied at 61 when Gray got the layup to give WC the much earned win.

Sylvester led with 21 points while Turner brought in 15. Gray scored eight points and Fisher finished with seven. Deonta Segrest had five points and Harris added four while Winters ended the night with three.

WC girl’s game:

The Lady Vikes took a 66-49 loss to Callaway on Thursday. Jae’la Smith led with 18 points while Zion Harvey pitched seven points while Kayleigh Karel and Alexis Jefferies both had five. Bre McDowell put up four while Lauren Madison and Makayla Mitchell scored two.
