WWII Veteran honored at Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting
Last updated:
In a Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting on Tuesday, July 6, Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. gave recognition to local World War II Veteran Robert David Anderson in the opening of the first meeting after being inaugurated back into office.
“As we celebrate 245 years of America’s independence, I learned a long time ago that freedom is not free. There’s always a sacrifice,” stated Flaggs. “I don’t know why they always say Honorable Mayfield, Honorable George Flaggs, Honorable Monsour but the veterans of our country are real honorable. They are the ones that deserves the honorable in front of their name.”
Anderson, the 95-years-old veteran from Waynesboro, Virginia served in the 95th infantry in World War II. He is still an active part of the community, having taken part of the 4th of July celebrations, the inauguration of those re-elected to the board and the reception that followed.
We would also like to take the time to say thank you to Anderson. His sacrifices and those which served with him has ensured that America remains the land of the free and the home of the brave.
