Yes, that is a sunken barge

In case you happen to see a half sunken barge under the old Highway 80 bridge over the Mississippi River, it’s actually been there since last year when it struck the bridge and sank.

Bridge Superintendent Herman Smith says the barge belongs to Marquette Transportation.

With the river at around 20 feet, a good portion of it is visible from the area behind the Welcome Center.

Plans are that Big River Shipbuilders will recover and remove the barge in the next couple of weeks.
