2021 hurricane season cost $70 billion and took at least 160 lives

The 2021 Atlantic Hurricane season officially ended on Nov. 30. This year, we saw 21 named storms, including seven hurricanes, of which four were major hurricanes.
In terms of named storms, this season was the third most active year on record. It also marks the sixth consecutive above-normal Atlantic hurricane season, and this was the first time on record that two consecutive hurricane seasons exhausted the list of 21 storm names.
Hurricane Ida led to severe disruptions to energy infrastructure, including electric transmission systems and oil and gas production activities. Ida alone caused an estimated $64.5 billion in damage in surpassed the cost of all 2020 hurricanes combined.
