The Hinds Community College Eagles football team has earned and accepted a bid to play in the Graphic Edge Bowl against the Iowa Western Community College Reivers.

The Graphic Edge Bowl will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, starting at 11 a.m. inside the UNI-Dome on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa, located in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

“We are so excited about the opportunity to be competing in the Graphic Edge Bowl. This is a reward for all the hard work our players and coaching staff have been putting in since January,” said third-year head coach Larry Williams.

The Hinds Eagles finished their regular season with a 7-2 overall record and are ranked eighth in the nation by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Their opponents, the IWCC Reivers, finished their regular season with an 8-3 overall record, and are ranked fourth in the nation by the NJCAA.

“I want to thank Dr. Muse, the board, coach Gene Murphy, our administrators and our fans for the constant support they have given us throughout this season. It is because of them we are able to compete at such a high level and have opportunities like this one,” Williams said in a release.

The top-10 matchup will be Hinds first bowl game appearance since 2013 when they competed in the Brazos Valley Bowl against Navarro College in Texas. In 2013 Williams served as the defensive coordinator for Hinds, and he has fond memories of the experience.

“Some our kids have never been outside the great state of Mississippi. Just to see the joy on their faces being in a new environment makes what we do as coaches all worth it,” he said.

A full schedule of events will be posted on the Hinds athletic website in the coming days and weeks leading up to the Graphic Edge Bowl.
