Fire on 61 South is a controlled burn

A controlled burn at 9140 U.S. Highway 61 South is causing passersby and residents some concern. Especially in the dark, the fire looks much more dramatic than it actually is.

County firefighters have been dispatched to this location twice tonight.

The address is just south of Sonny’s Grocery on the opposite side of the road.

Be assured that the contractor is at the scene monitoring the fire. He has a water source and a piece of equipment available to control the fire, if necessary.

There is no cause for alarm.
