Clear Creek golf course still open to players despite COVID-19 and vandalism
Last updated:
Vandalism to the water coolers stationed around the Clear Creek golf course resulted in Warren County Parks and Recreation Director Brice McLendon ordering their removal.
“After someone opened one and filled it with empty beer cans, I chose to remove the coolers,” McLendon said this morning.
McLendon said the course remains open, although they are limiting the number of people in the clubhouse and pro shop. The 18-hole course is seeing an upswing in play due to many area courses being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have been packed, but players have been respectful in regards to social distancing recommendations,” McLendon said. “We have had players who normally play Eagle Ridge near Raymond and Wolfe Hollow near Wesson coming here because (those courses) are closed.”
Maintenance personnel are cleaning golf carts with bleach and an industrial sanitizing agent following each usage, and McLendon has used pool noodles installed in each cup as a mechanism to keep players from touching the flags on each hole. This allows players to only touch their golf ball.
Shared to me from @DavidMNicholls1 & his team this afternoon. Pool noodle provides a chance to putt into the hole but still retrieve your ball without touching the flag or cup. pic.twitter.com/A7n87NbFop

“We lost several tournaments due to school activities being closed, and we anticipate losing more as this continues,” he said. “We plan to stay open if at all possible. This allows some form of outdoor recreation.”
“This board of supervisors has been most responsive to our needs,” McLendon added. “I have been here 21 years and have never had this level of cooperation and interest from previous boards.”
