Video of VHS track star Nick Barnes gains a million views on SportsCenter
Nick Barnes, Vicksburg High School track and field runner and football player, has gained over a million views on a video of him running the 40-yard dash in 4.14 seconds.
Barnes, a 2020 VHS graduate, traveled with his family during football season last November to Nashville, Tennessee, to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play the Tennessee Titans. There, he witnessed people running the 40-yard dash during pre-game activities and decided to give it a try. He shocked everyone when he ran with impressive speed that the majority of NFL players never reach in their careers.
“It felt normal, and I didn’t realize how good I did until I turned around and saw the crowd’s reaction,” Barnes said.
Since posting the video on his social media Tik Tok page, SportsCenter contacted Barnes and asked to share it. The video now has more than a million views and famous athletes such as Dewayne Wade have commented on it.
Maxprep and Overtime have also shared the video, helping it go viral.
Barnes was set to have a great senior season this year in track, but due to COVID-19, his season was cut short.
”It was heartbreaking because we did great last year and planned for this year to be even better,” Barnes said.
He plans to walk-on for a college this coming fall to continue to put his speed and athleticism to use.
Barnes graduated Monday from Vicksburg High School.
