The Mississippi High School Activities Association has reaffirmed its June 1 restart date for high-school sports in Mississippi.

April 15, the committee voted to cancel the remainder of spring sports competitions and prohibit workouts and competition until at least June 1 due to concerns over the COVID-19 crisis and school closures. The cancellation affected all high school sports including baseball, track and field, and cross country.

The MHSAA executive committee held a conference call Monday to decide whether it should extend the suspension or stick to its June 1 date. As of now, the committee decided to stay with the original date, but it will reconvene May 21 to re-evaluate the situation.

If the committee decides to push the date back, it could effect football and summer leagues.
