Vicksburg High School girls basketball player Destiny Sims has been named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year.

The award was announced on Facebook last week by head coach Troy Stewart.

Sims led VHS to a 20-11 record last season as a sophomore and quickly became the lead scorer for the Gators with an average of 12.4 points per game.

With the help of Sims and her teammates, the Gators were able to advance to the semifinals of the playoffs for the first time in more than 20 years.

Sims is coached by VHS head coach Troy Stewart who recently finished his third season as head coach.

Sims is an upcoming junior and has two years left to play as a Gator. She has already established herself as one of the best players in the district.
