The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has canceled all of fall 2020 sports due to the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases.

The MAAC Council of Presidents announced the move Monday in a statement.

“Following today’s Council of Presidents meeting, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has decided to cancel fall sports competition due to continuing health and safety concerns surrounding the global COVID-19 pandemic,” a press release on the MAAC’s website read. “A decision on whether fall sport competition would be feasible in the spring will be determined by the presidents at a later date. Athletically related activities and training opportunities for enrolled student-athletes will be structured in accordance with each institution’s procedures and applicable state regulations.”

The following sports are canceled: men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s cross country.

Student-athletes whose season was canceled will still be able to train when they return to campus, and the schools will still be responsible for following COVID-19 regulations placed by the NCAA when athletes begin training.

MAAC schools are in the Northeast U.S., and include Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Manhattan College, Marist College, Monmouth University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University and Siena College.
