Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi, has built a COVID-19 testing facility on its campus.

“This is more of a biochemistry type of training that is needed to do this type of work,” Dr. Shelley Smith, assistant to the president for coronavirus management and assistant chemistry professor at Belhaven, told WLBT Friday.”

As of now, Belhaven is the only university in Mississippi that has a COVID testing facility and the site is testing students and faculty throughout the week. The university started building the facility in November. and has hired multiple students to work there who will gain credit toward their clinical hours.

The testing facility at Belhaven runs from Sunday to Friday each week. Over 1,000 students and faculty are tested weekly using saliva samples.
