Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh passed away Wednesday morning after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

Limbaugh’s wife, Kathryn, opened his daily radio program with the announcement of his passing.

Limbaugh, known for his love of cigars, was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer in January of 2020.

He has been a fixture in talk radio since 1988. His three hour talk radio program, heard locally on WVBG-AM 1490, was the number one rated talk radio program across the country. Limbaugh was widely recognized as one of the premiere voices of the conservative movement in the United States, and was even made an honorary member of the House of Representatives in 1994.

Limbaugh was a five-time recipient of the Marconi Radio Award for Syndicated Radio Personality of the Year and was inducted into both the National Radio Hall of Fame and the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
