Jackson native George Ivory had been named as Mississippi Valley State University’s new basketball head coach.

MVSU made the announcement on Monday where they expressed their excitement of having Ivory to be a part of their program.

“Coach Ivory brings a wealth of knowledge to our basketball program as our 12th men’s basketball coach,” said Dr. Jerryl Briggs, MVSU president. We are excited about what he will bring to our program as an alum who has experienced great success during his time as a coach in the SWAC,” he added.

Ivory previously coached at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff for 13 seasons.

Ivory also played for MVSU where he was selected as First Team All-SWAC, SWAC Tournament MVP, and Player of the Year during his time as a Delta Devil.

Ivory will be replacing Lindsey Hunter who retired last week after three seasons.
