Hazel Lee Scott Sanders, 1951-2023

Hazel Lee Scott was the only child born to the late Frank J. “Chappie” Scott and Queen Ester Carpenter on June 23, 1951. Hazel was blessed with a bonus father, Ventress Carpenter, who assisted with raising her.

Hazel made her transition to glory to be reunited with her parents, Frank J. “Chappie” Scott and Queen Ester Carpenter, and Ventress Carpenter; her children, Jessica Newton and Odell Wesley, Jr.; a grandchild, Jeremy Wesley; and a sister, Betty Pierce.

Hazel leaves to cherish her memories forever: her loving husband, Adrian Sanders; five children, Kretonia (Shaun) Jones, LuDuane (Pamela) Newton, Sr., Charlie (Monica) Griffin, Joyce (Walter, Jr.) Hardy, and Jackie (Jessica) Wesley; one grandchild that she raised as her own, Jermaine Wesley; a bonus daughter, Sabrina Polk; eleven siblings, Gloria Carter, Diana Jenkins, Mildred Walker, Edward Earl, Mary Turpin, Janet Rainey, James Scott, Rosie Brown, Jacqueline Sanders, Donna Pollard, and Michale Scott; grandchildren, Andre Jones, Alfreda Jones, Anquanet Jones, Alycia Jones, Ke’Aira Newton, De’Aira Newton, Lu’Duane Newton, Jr., DeKoree Freeman, Michael Freeman, E’Shadra Dee, Kimberly Anderson, Dillard Reed, Ashanti Griffin, Brittney Dent, Madisyn Griffin, Derrin Walker, Jr., Kamal (Shaquayla) Wesley, Kourtney Wesley, Kristopher Walker, Jackie Wilson, Jonathan Wesley, Justice Wesley, Jadarrion Wesley, Angel Smith, Jamiiya Wesley, Jeremiah Wesley, and Charmine Burton; thirty-four great-grandchildren; a sister/friend, Emma Spates; and a host of many nieces, nephews, and other relatives including the Scott, Newton, Griffin, Blue, Sanders, Wesley, and Valentine family.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Hazel Lee Scott Sanders on September 23, 2023, 2:00 PM at Travelers Rest Baptist Church, 718 Bowmar Ave, Vicksburg, MS .

Visitation will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Services, 4310 Halls Ferry Road, Vicksburg, MS on September 22, 2023 from 1:00 – 6:00 PM with family present from 5:00 – 6:00 PM.

Hazel transitioned on September 15, 2023 at the age of 72.
