Claiborne County man dead in Utica crash

A Claiborne County man died in a crash near Utica Wednesday evening.

Just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, the Mississippi Highway Patrol was advised of a three-vehicle crash on Mississippi Highway 18 and Lee Davis Road east of Utica in Hinds County.

Preliminary reports indicate that an eastbound GMC pickup was preparing to make a left turn onto Lee Davis Road when it was struck by an eastbound VW Passat. After the VW struck the pickup it crossed into the westbound lane and collided head on with a westbound Toyota Corolla.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla died because of his injuries, and his passenger was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center with unknown injuries. The driver of the VW was transported to St. Dominic Hospital with unknown injures. The occupant of the pickup was not injured.

The deceased has been identified as Charles L. McDonald, 67, of Hermanville in Claiborne County.

This crash is currently under investigation, and more information will be released pending the outcome.
