YMCA statement on Wednesday’s drowning

The Junius Ward Johnson YMCA family is deeply saddened to inform our community that earlier this afternoon a young man with our Day Camp was found unresponsive in our pool. Our lifeguards acted immediately to pull the young boy from the water, administer CPR and call paramedics.

Paramedics continued CPR upon their arrival, and transported the child to Merit Health River Region Hospital where, to our great regret, he passed away.

We are conducting an internal review to learn the facts about what happened.

At the Junius Ward Johnson Y, making sure all children and adults are safe in the pool is a top priority.

Our entire Y family is deeply saddened by this situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the young man and his family.
