The New England Patriots have released Vicksburg native Malcolm Butler.

Butler was placed on injured reserve last week after a hip injury in the preseason. He was released on Thursday with an injury settlement and is now free to join another team.

Butler sat out last season but returned to the Patriots over the summer. He has played for the Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and the Arizona Cardinals.

At this time, it is not clear if Butler will retire or search for another organization to join.
