Section of Halls Ferry near Bowmar closed to repair gas leak

Halls Ferry Road near it’s intersection with Bowmar Avenue is currently closed to repair a gas leak.

An odor of gas was reported in the area Monday afternoon which led the City of Vicksburg Gas Department to respond and start repairs.

“We got complaints yesterday afternoon that there was a strong odor in this vicinity and we came out and checked it out yesterday and first thing this morning we jumped on it,” stated Eddie Henderson with the gas department.

After digging up the area, the gas leak was discovered. The cause is reported to be wear and tear of an old pipe.

Expect the area to be closed off until at least 2 p.m. Tuesday while crews make repairs and can open back up the area.

“We’re going to take all safety precautions and we’re going to repair the leak and then we’re going to close all the holes back up.”
