Ole Miss football player Sam Williams has been cleared to rejoin the Rebels after sexual assault charges against him were dismissed.

The Ole Miss Athletics Department released a statement Tuesday informing everyone that Williams can now join team activities.

“With no pending charges, Sam Williams has returned to football activities,” the statement read. “We defer to his legal counsel on questions regarding his case.”

Williams was indefinitely suspended from the team July 26 after he was arrested and charged with sexual battery by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department in Oxford.

Williams played linebacker for the Rebels last season where he finished with 37 tackles, six sacks and one interception. He also started eight games and is expected to be a defensive leader this season under first year coach Lane Kiffin.
