Warren Central High School football team finished their regular season with a 9-1 record on Friday after a 24-12 win over Meridian on Thursday.
“It was a good game but we had to fight and a few penalties killed us but we had to shake back and finish strong,” Trey Hall(who became WC’s All-Time Receiver Record Holder)said.
A long touchdown run by Trey Hall and short score from Mark Gray Jr. along with a field goal by Jonah Artman would give the Vikings a 17-0 lead at halftime.
Coming out of halftime, WC continued to play hard football by draining the clock on offense and making stops on defense. Kam Wallace provided some good coverage at defensive back to contribute to the defense.
Late in the third quarter, Jack Wright connected with Maddox Lynch as they moved down the field. Wright’s next pass would be intercepted that put the Wildcats inside the 20-yard line.
Meridian would score from a four yard run to put the score at 17-6 with 11:38 left to play.
As the Vikings’ defense came up with a stop, Wright threw another interception but WC would get the ball back after Julien Demby recovered a fumble.
On the next drive, Wright would connect with Zack Evans and then Hall for a 45-yard touchdown that was called back due to a holding penalty. A few plays later, Hall would get another shot at the end zone after breaking out for a 35-yard score to give WC a 24-6 lead. Evans also had a interception on defense.
Late in the fourth quarter after Rashad Clark made a big hit, the Wildcats would move the ball easily down the field and get their second score of the night from a 10-yard run by Mark Smith.
Meridian tried their best to make a comeback but WC wouldn’t allow it as they secured the win and can now prepare for the playoffs.
“We gotta get back in the lab and get ready to work and get ready to ball,” Hall said.
