Mississippi has not yet reached its peak in the COVID-19 pandemic.

University of Mississippi Medical Center Vice Chancellor Dr. LouAnn Woodward announced that conclusion in a tweet Sunday morning.

Woodward accompanied her tweet with information from the Mississippi State Health Department and, apparently, hospitalizations at UMMC.

“The numbers of COVID-19 positive patients, hospitalizations, and deaths are increasing,” she wrote.

Her conclusion conflicts with announcements from Gov. Tate Reeves and State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs that the state’s statistics are showing a downward trend.

Reeves is expected to announce further easing of COVID-19 business restrictions on Monday afternoon.
