Eleven new cases and one more COVID-19 death in Warren County Wednesday

Wednesday, the Mississippi State Department of Health reports 11 new COVID-19 cases in Warren County, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the county to 358.

One additional death was reported Wednesday, bringing the county’s death toll to 15. The death was reported between May 30 and June 14 in a long-term care facility.

Deaths in the county include eight residents of Heritage House Nursing Center. As of Thursday, June 18, MSDH reports that Heritage House is the only nursing home under investigation for an active COVID-19 outbreak.

Statewide, MSDH reports another big spike of 526 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases in Mississippi to 23,424.

MSDH also reports that 22 Mississippians died of COVID-19 statewide Wednesday, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 1,011. The state’s mortality rate of deaths to confirmed cases is about 4.3%.

Twelve confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between May 30 and June 14, identified from death certificate reports. The additional deaths were reported in the following counties:

Deaths and new cases were reported as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 23. MSDH usually reports new statistics on the COVID-19 coronavirus each day based on the previous day’s testing and death reports.

MSDH has estimated the number of people who can be presumed recovered from COVID-19 in Mississippi. That number is 17,242 through Sunday, June 21. This figure is updated weekly. It represents about 73,6% of the cumulative 23,424 cases reported as of Wednesday, June 24.

Based on the number of cases reported Wednesday, June 3 in Warren County (191), the estimated number of people presumed recovered in the county is 176, or about 49.2%, with 167 active cases out of the 358 cumulative cases reported Wednesday, June 24.

These estimates are based on MSDH’s guidelines for calculating estimated recoveries when hospitalizations are not known, using the number of cases 21 days ago, less known outcomes (deaths).

As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 523 Mississippians were hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19, a marked increase since the recent low of 358 patients June 6. Another 244 people were hospitalized with suspected but unconfirmed cases. Of those with confirmed infections, 157 were critically ill and in intensive care units, and 91 were on ventilators.
