EPA approves surface disinfectants for killing COVID-19 virus
Last updated:
Lysol now has two products that it can label and advertise as effectively killing SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, on surfaces.
Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency announced its approval of the first two surface disinfectants proven against the virus: Lysol Disinfectant Spray and Lysol Disinfectant Max Cover Mist.
“EPA is committed to identifying new tools and providing accurate and up-to-date information to help the American public protect themselves and their families from the novel coronavirus,” said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler in a statement. “EPA’s review of products tested against this virus marks an important milestone in President Trump’s all-of-government approach to fighting the spread of COVID-19.”
The agency expects to announce approval of other disinfectant brands shortly. EPA’s list of products that meet the agency’s criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2 , the virus that causes COVID-19, includes more than 420 products.
