Flaggs to recommend extending COVID-19 orders next week

Mayor George Flaggs Jr. spoke about the upcoming holiday and the city’s COVID-19 orders briefly at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting Monday morning.

Flaggs announced he would recommend extending the city’s COVID-19 provisions next week, and that the city will provide additional guidance for having a safe Thanksgiving. He mentioned that Mississippi has been named a COVID-19 hot spot.

“We’re not going to be so restricted in our announcement that we’re closing down any business or we’re suggesting anything different than what they’re suggesting on the national level, and that is they believe practicing social distance and covering the face or wearing a mask is working,” Flaggs said.

COVID-19 cases are on a steep rise nationally, and many states and cities are continuing to require masks be worn to help stop the spread of the deadly virus that has killed nearly 250,000 people in the U.S. and more than 1.3 million people around the globe.
