VICKSBURG, Miss. (Vicksburg Daily News)–Hinds County Sheriff Lee Vance and Captain Tyree Jones have both tested positive for COVID-19.

Multiple reports showed that both Jones and Vance are fully vaccinated but were still affected by the virus.

The new Delta variant of the coronavirus has sparked new guidance from health officials. State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs recently stated the Delta variant is more contagious than the previous Alpha variant which hit the state last year. Guidance from the Mississippi State Department of Health was recently released for K-12 schools to prepare for the new school year.

Though not 100%, health officials state the current vaccines reduce the chance of being infected and developing a serious illness.

There is no sign of how they contracted the virus, whether it was at work or off duty.
