Supervisors take action to protect county employees pay amid COVID-19 crisis
Last updated:
The Warren County Board of Supervisors on Monday approved a resolution to protect county employees pay during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The special meeting was called as a result of supervisors receiving new federal guidelines that mandate certain private and public employers must pay employees for up to two weeks if they cannot work because of COVID-19.
Supervisors choose to adopt a resolution that gives county workers 100% of their pay if they are not working for one of several reasons. Covered under the guidelines is leave for actually contracting the virus, or caring for children due to their being ill, home because of school closures or for lack of child care due to the virus.
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act is part of the recently expanded Family Leave Act and the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act. It is effective April 1 through Dec. 31 of this year.
The action also includes county workers who may be teleworking during the crisis.
During earlier meetings, District 3 Supervisor Shawn Jackson expressed her objections to forcing workers to use their accrued sick and vacation leave. This measure resolves the need for such an action.
