Sunday, the Mississippi State Department of Health reports four new COVID-19 cases in Warren County, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the county to 252. The number of deaths stands at 12, which includes eight residents of one long-term care facility.

MSDH reports Warren County has two nursing homes under investigation for active COVID-19 outbreaks as of Thursday, June 11:

  • Heritage House Nursing Center has 15 employee cases, 39 resident cases and eight resident deaths.
  • The Bluffs Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center has two employee cases and no resident cases or deaths.

Shady Lawn Health and Rehabilitation is no longer being investigated.

Statewide, MSDH reports a record 168 new COVID-19 cases for Sunday, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases in Mississippi to 19,516.

MSDH also reports that two additional Mississippians died of COVID-19 statewide, bringing the number of deaths in the state to 891. The state’s mortality rate for the virus is about 4.6%.

The MSDH website did not display where the deaths occurred Sunday.

Deaths and new cases were reported as of 6 p.m. Saturday, June 13. MSDH usually reports new statistics on the COVID-19 coronavirus each day based on the previous day’s testing and death reports.

MSDH has estimated the number of people who can be presumed recovered from COVID-19 in Mississippi. That number is 13,356 through Sunday, June 7. This figure will be updated weekly. It represents about 68.4% of the cumulative 19,516 cases reported as of Sunday, June 13.

Based on the number of cases reported Sunday, May 24, in Warren County (150), the estimated number of people presumed recovered in the county is 138, or about 54.8%, with 102 active cases out of the 252 cumulative cases reported Friday.

These estimates are based on MSDH’s guidelines for calculating estimated recoveries when hospitalizations are not known, using the number of cases 21 days ago, less known outcomes (deaths).

As of Sunday, 467 Mississippians are hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Another 200 patients are hospitalized with suspected infections. Of those hospitalized with confirmed infections, 151 are critically ill and in intensive care units and 99 are on ventilators.
