The Vicksburg Fire Department announced the addition of two new ambulance units on Wednesday. Fire Medic 20 and Fire Medic 80 have been added to the fleet of assets accessible to first responders.

“We want to thank the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for their assistance in purchasing [the ambulances],” said Fire Chief Derrick Stamps. “We’re very appreciative of it.”

According to Deputy Chief Jessica Cade, these are the first post-covid purchases for the department; a process that began in November of 2021.

“With this new addition, we now have a fleet of 10 ambulances with four ambulances staffed 24 hours a day,” said Deputy Chief Cade.

Alderman Michael Mayfield Sr. was at the announcement and spoke on how the department has grown over his lifetime.

“I want them to know, when I look at Fire Medic 20 and I look at Fire Medic 80, that tells me that you all are still looking forward,” said Alderman Mayfield of the Vicksburg Fire Department.

Fire Medic 20 will be stationed at Station 2 on Indiana Avenue. Fire Medic 80 will be stationed at Station 8 on Halls Ferry Road.
