Porter’s Chapel Academy earned their first win of the season after defeating River Oaks Academy 9-8.

“I’m really proud of us and we kept the lead the whole time and we stayed ahead and played like a team,” Marley Bufkin said.

Mia Abdo and Emily Muirhead both hit doubles in the first inning to keep the game tied at one.

By the top of the third, PCA trailed 4-1 until their bats got hot. A triple from from Abdo along with singles and RBIs from Marley Bufkin and Sophie Masterson would put the Lady Eagles back in the game. An inside-the-park home run by Audrey Carraway gave PCA a 7-4 lead going into the fourth.

By the bottom of the sixth, PCA led 7-6 when Ali Blackmon and Bufkin both hit a triple that brought in two more runs. River Oaks earned two more runs in the seventh but PCA was able to control things and bring home the win.

Abdo went 4 for 4 on the night as she led the team at bat.

“I was really proud of our performance and we’ve really improved since the first game,” Ado said.

Muirhead(1 RBI) and Bufkin(3 RBIS) both went 2 for 4 at the plate and Blackmon brought in a triple.

“Knowing it was a district game put a lot a hype in us and we fought through it,” Muirhead said.

Carraway ended the night with her inside-the-park home run that brought in two RBIs.

“We did really good hitting and that home run was definitely a surprise and I’m going to aim at getting it over the fence next time,” Carraway said.

Masterson struck out one batter and Muirhead struck out two on the night.
