On Monday, June 5, the Board of Mayor and Alderman honored several employees in the community for outstanding service.

In an effort to honor those who have served long periods in their various positions in Vicksburg, the Board has been recognizing several employees at each meeting with gratitude and a plaque for their service to the community. On Monday, the Board honored Ken Gilliam for six years of service at the Fire Department, and Walter Erwin for his 20 years of service in Recreation Maintenance.

In addition, the Board recognized an Employee of the Second Quarter for their outstanding service.

Deborah Nickson of the City of Vicksburg Care Committee presented a plaque to Mrs. Artracia “Tracy” Brown, Youth Coordinator of the Recreation Department.

“This plaque is presented to Artracia because she goes over and beyond on her call of duty,” said Nickson.

“Thank you all so much; I’m honored,” said Brown upon receiving the plaque. “I am shocked. I feel great, I really do. I think God for this.”

In two weeks Brown will take on a position as the Parent Liaison for the upcoming Youth Development Center.

The Board then showed support for Mississippi Community Transportation Awareness Day, thanking Evelyn Bumpers, Executive Director of Nroute Transit and President of the Mississippi Public Transit Association, and Machelle Shelby Kyles, Mobility Manager for Nroute Transit for pioneering the program.

On June 15, community members are encouraged to take public transit to demonstrate their support for the benefits it provides to the entire community.
